Kenneth A. Seyler, Jr. (posthumous) was involved in farming-ranching 55 years before his recent death. He & his wife, Carolyn, lived & farmed in the Greenfield area. He graduated from Geary High School.He received the Good Neighbor Award for working on the former Cracker Box school building for a club. Kenneth was a member of Geary First Baptist Church. He raised Angus cows/calves & grew wheat, rye & native & improved grasses. Building erosion control strips along streams, terraces & dams across washes that are planted to Bermuda grass were among his conservation measure. Seyler especially enjoyed family vacations & get-togethers & visiting friends. Their children are Sandy & Eugene Roach and David & Crystal Seyler.

Ronald Haffner has been in pharmacy for 48 years, but has farmed 50 years. He graduated from Canton HS and completed his doctor of pharmacy degree at SWOSU. He & his wife, Nancy, were married in 1960. He raises wheat, Lovegrass & Plains Bluestem & also Charolais-Angus & Hereford cattle for his cow-calf operation. Conservations measures include keeping up terraces, instituting pasture grass programs & planting grass for conservation. Ron has been associated with FFA & been president of Okeene Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Club & a member of Zion Baptist Church. The Haffners’ children: son, Nathan & daughter, Rene Haub. His favorite past-times are family gatherings & hunting. |

Herman “Dee” Jameson started 62 years ago with 80 acres of rented land and has built a diversified farming & cattle operation. He graduated from Geary H.S. in 1949 and married his late wife, Geralda, in 1951. Jameson received military combats awards for his service in the Korean Conflict & also received the Indian Conservation Service Award. He has 1500 acres in wheat, 800 in alfalfa & 2,980 acres in improved & native grass. His mixed breed cattle operation includes cows/calves & stocker/calves. Jameson has served on the FSA county committee, Cimarron Electric Coop trustee, Greenfield Coop Gin board, Geary First National Bank board & on the Farm Bureau policy board and the “12-Mile Drainage Assn.” since its inception. His children are Gayla & Bob Bennett, Lyndon & Kim Summer, & Gay Lynn & Darren Tanner. Jameson enjoyed traveling, fishing & watching his grandkids activities & sports.

Canton - 2008 Blaine County Ag Hall of Fame John Caywood – has been involved in agriculture production for 40 years. His operation included 700 acres in wheat & 700 acres in native & Bermuda grass. Caywood raises Angus & Maine-Anjou cattle for his cow-calf & stocker-feeder herds. He’s used no-till since 1999. Conservation techniques include terraces, water control dams & waterways, no-till, crop rotation & soil reconditioning with agricultural lime. Caywood is administrative board & finance chairman with the Canton Methodist Church. He is a 40-year supporter of Canton 4-H & FFA & served on the state board of directors of the Okla. High School Rodeo Assn. Memberships include Farm Bureau, Okla. Cattlemen’s Assn., National Cattlemen’s Assn., & Okla. Young Farmers. He & his wife, Betty Mae, met in 1956 while attending OSU, and married in 1957.

Their children are Julie & Dick Foreman & her sons Brandon & Adam Williams; ; Bill Caywood & children Megan (a student at Pepperdine University), Chase & Angie Caywood; Charity VanMeter & daughters Nikki Perry, Joni & Lexi VanMeter and Sue Hull & daughter Cydnie. Great-children include Jennica Williams, Logan Dee Caywood, and Dominik Perry. Caywood’s favorite past-times have been attending stock shows, first with his children and now with his grandchildren, and also rodeos & team roping.

Gerald Burghardt has raised cattle for 49 years and has been milking some of them for 46 years. He & his wife, Arlene, were married in July 1963. Burghardt says he enjoys spending time with the family, especially the grandchildren. He was an Okeene Whea-Esta Wheat King & received an FFA Jr. Master Farmer Award. He raises Angus & Holstein cattle and grows wheat, Bermuda & Plains Bluestem. Minimum tillage is in his program along with using wheat pasture and supplements grass pasture with protein tubs & feeds hay when the grass gets short. Burghardt has served close to 40 years on the Blaine Co. Farm Bureau Board & also is a member of Sooner Coop & Ames Farmer Coop. He attends the Northwest Revival Center Church and helping build a new Assembly of God Church. Terracing, constructing waterways, planting grass on highly erodible land & dozing out cedars are among steps he takes to try & ensure his land will continue to be productive for future generations. |

Watonga - 2008 Blaine County Farmer/Rancher of the Year Mike Haigler has continued a Blaine County pioneer heritage. After graduating from Watonga High School, he attended OSU. He was an FFA State Farmer in 1963. The 48-year farmer/rancher raises Angus for his cow/calf operation ad grows wheat grass, Bermuda & Old World Bluestem. He has added liquid feed to his regime to improve cost-effectiveness and save time. Conservation measures include not overgrazing & controlling redcedar, mesquite and oaks. “Persevering through hard personal & financial times” is what gives Haigler the most pride. He and his wife, Robbie, have been married since 1969. Their children include Daynica Nippert & her children Morgan & Garrett, and Trisha & Darren Parker and their children Chloe & Benjamin. Haigler’s favorite past times are horse training, chuck wagon cooking and teaching his grandchildren to ride. He is a member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Assn. & the American Quarter Horse Assn. |

Canton - 2008 Blaine County Farmer/Rancher of the Year
Larry Scott. Registered Limousin cattle & minimum-till farming are
hallmarks of Larry’s farm-ranch operations in the Eagle City Area. He was born
at Eagle City and earned a BS in biology & business and also a degree in medical
technology and works at the Watonga Indian Health Service Clinic, where he
received the National Area Director’s Award for Leadership and Innovation in
Health Care for Native Americans.

Scott has farmed for 45 years. He raises wheat, feed grain and grows Bluestem & Bermuda grasses. His cow/calf herd includes crossbreeds as well as Limousins. In past years he raised stocker-feeder calves and planted rye for hay and grazing. His minimum-till farming reduces costs and conserves soil and moisture. “I utilized rotational grazing to maximize pastures without overgrazing, and to conserve input costs,” Scott staid. He makes liquid protein & mineral supplements available all year for his livestock. He takes pride in being able to care for the same farm his great-grandfather settled when he arrived here from Switzerland. He now owns that farm, where he was born. Conservation practices include building & maintaining terraces, waterways & ponds, ongoing cedar eradication and minimum-till farming. Scott has been a Blaine County Post-Adjudication Review Board member; has served on the Canton School Board & the Canton-Longdale Ambulance Board. Additionally, Scott has been a charter member of the Eagle City Fire Dept.; and a lay leader and Sunday school teacher at Canton Methodist Church. He attends Eagle City Christian Church. His memberships include Farm Bureau, Okla. Wheat Growers Assn., Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Assn., National Limousin Foundation and the Blaine County Mineral Owners Assn. He & his wife, Julia, were married in January 1970. They have two children, Jennifer Hightower and her daughter, Mackenzie, and son Davis Scott & his wife, Melissa, and their son, Mason. Scott’s favorite activities are spending time with the grandchildren and family, hunting, fishing, biking, and boating. |

Okeene - 2008 Blaine County Farmer/Rancher of the Year Lynn Geis’ operation in the Okeene area includes wheat, soybeans, milo, native & improved grasses, alfalfa & hybrid sudan. He raises Angus Crossbred, Simmental & Hereford cows for both cow-calf & stocked-feeder programs. Geis is a member of the American Hereford Assn., American Simmental Assn. & Oklahoma Farmers Union. After graduating from Okeene High School, where he was an FFA State Farmer, he attended Oklahoma State Tech-Okmulgee & has farmed 23 years. Terracing & grassed waterways are among Geis’ conservation measures. He utilizes both convention & minimum tillage & rotational grazing on wheat. Geis is a member of Zion Baptist Church & is involved in Okeene school activities.

Geary - 2008 Blaine County Farmer/Rancher of the Year Chad Scheihing is a young Greenfield area farmer-rancher that is wasting no time trying out new methods. He raises wheat, milo, alfalfa & his first year of corn and also has stocker-feeder cattle. Scheihing uses no-till farming for all of his crops and says that practice saves money & helps clean up fields. A Geary High School graduate, he & his wife, Katie, were married in 2008. Their first child is on the way. He is a volunteer firefighter for the Greenfield Fire Dept. & also is a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church. His favorite past-times are showing livestock with the local FFA group & roping.
